Fonik has fought off stiff competition from hundreds regionally to make it into the final 3 of the Yorkshire Bank ‘Taking Care of Business’ competition, after Heart Radio listeners were asked to nominate worthy local businesses.

Gavin Opperman, group business banking director, Yorkshire Bank made the following statement explaining why Alex Clarke and Fonik was chosen:

“His passion clearly shines through. His innovative product range stands out in the market. He’s already exporting and set to expand.”

Fonik was founded when Alex, with his DJ background, decided to modify his own mixing desk five years ago after growing weary at having to constantly shuffle his turntable, mixers, keyboard and drum machines around a tiny desk every time he wanted to produce a new sound.

“The stands I make offer an ergonomic solution and make things more practical,” he says. “I know what it’s like when you’ve been mixing music for hours, leaning over tables and moving equipment around to make space. After a while, you just give up because you’re uncomfortable and your back is aching. It makes such a big difference if you’re comfortable, with things at the right height, set out in logical order - and that really shows in the music you produce.”

In the time Fonik has been trading, it has already grown from strength to strength, teaming up with city centre music tech shop Disc DJ to showcase its designs and grow its customer base. The stands have proven really popular, and Fonik is now manufacturing for distributors in Europe and the USA.
